Mitralok Charitable Trust , an NGO for Animal Welfare is Against Slaughter
There are around 5 million stray cows living in India. On the one hand, cows are sacred for us Hindus, on the other hand, they block traffic and cause thousands of road accidents every month. But no one seems to know what to do about them. But don’t worry, we think “setting up new gaushalas Nationwide” is the best cure. Unfortunately we cannot work for the whole country right now, but with title courage, we can surely do it locally. To move the non-profit project forward, we need your generous support, Kokata and Bakura (West Bengal) based NGO – Mitralok Charitable Trust decided to start a fundraiser here. They come from rural backgrounds and they well trained in cattle keeping. They believe that after a year of successful operation, the Gaushala will become self-sustainable. The fund we raise here will be used in fencing the land, roof shading, cow catching, feeding and rearing, medical requirements, water bore well, Solar lights, and maintenance of the Gaushala premises. Thay are actively working to get our Gaushala registered by govt. ORGANIC FARMING: It will spark a new awareness in the area of organic farming. Cow dung we will use to make traditional fertilizer for Organic farming. Selling the fertilizer will support goshala’s further advancement. MEDICINAL BENEFITS: Cow urine collection for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. Selling this out will become the other source of Gaushala income. MILK PRODUCTION: Although milk production is our subsidiary goal, if we produce enough, it will add more to make the Gaushala self-sustaining. RELIGIOUS BENEFITS: As a Hindu it’s our Dharma to keep, feed, and protect cows.
Being an NGO for Animal Welfare, Mitralok Charitable Trust ensures protection to Indian cows from slaughter. Cow in India is considered a holy animal. Lacs of people in India respect and worship cows, and Hindus, it is more revere. The cow is the symbol of divinity and a goddess on earth. The present government has made strict laws for cow slaughter, not only to cows but to all other cattle animals like buffalo, bull, calves, etc. Many NGOs have come forward to help the holy animal and their welfare, like Mitralok Charitable Trust , which is doing its best to do all possible things for the cows and cattle. In Vedic terms, the cow is called “Aghanya,” which means cannot be killed. India, a country where 60% of the people live in villages, for them a cow and other cattle is not just the animal; it is their source of life and agriculture.
Constitution of India, Art 48 state that the state shall take steps to preserve and improve the condition of breeds and prohibits cow slaughter and of other cattle animals. And under Art. 48A, it states that the state should establish rules to protect the environment and to safeguard the wildlife of the nation. The ban on cow slaughter was explained because the enactment by the state to protect and improve the environment. The cow dung is rich source of organic manure which helps in improving the quality of soil for agriculture and also neglected the use of fertilizers.

In India, Cows or cattle are known for their usefulness and worth as domestic animals. They are beneficial for humans as well as the environment in several ways that, unfortunately, we fail to identify or appreciate them for their deeds. In India, the mother cow provides us with the overall needs for our farming activities in Agriculture. It helps us in the transportation of our goods. Also, it works in our agricultural lands and can be considered as the backbone of our agricultural sector. The value of cows in society has led to their exploitation, along with the slaughter of meat. It gave rise to the Cow Protection Movement in 1882. The significant and influential person to lead the movement was Swami Dayananda Saraswati, and Arya Samaj spread its awareness. In today’s scenario, we have a crowd of protestors called the Gau Raksha Dal, who are spreading awareness concerning the cow’s protection and their rights as animals. Also, Kolkata Sankaracharya Foundatio, an NGO for animal welfare, is doing its job in the same regard.
